Centre for Capacity Research, LSTM
The Centre for Capacity Research specialises in the science of research capacity strengthening – a process of individual and institutional development leading to enhanced ability to design, conduct, manage and evaluate research. The Centre is a global leader in advancing evidence-informed capacity strengthening practice – including in low- and middle-income countries - through conducting high quality, action-focused research into research environments and cultures and by ; fostering a global community of capacity strengthening scientists with equitable low- and middle-income country participation; and by sharing learning and advocating for evidence-informed capacity strengthening practice among researchers and their funders. The Centre is led by Imelda Bates and is one of the very few specialist centres in the world dedicated to the study of research capacity strengthening, including for implementation research. of the condition for better patient outcomes.

The KNUST School of Medicine and Dentistry (KSMD) aims to provide an environment for community-based professional and academic medical training, research and support for health care delivery in Ghana and Africa. KSMD also provides community services, consultancies, creates collaborative links and attracts scholars from the international community.

The University Teaching Hospitals (UTHs),
Zambia
The University Teaching Hospitals (UTHs), formerly Lusaka Hospital, is the biggest public tertiary hospital located in Lusaka, the capital city of Zambia. It was built in 1910 and is the largest hospital with 1,655 beds providing primary, secondary and tertiary care. The University Teaching Hospital (UTHs) offers both inpatient and outpatient care and is a center for specialist referrals from across the country. UTH comprises four hospitals – Childrens Hospital, Women and Newborn Hospital, Adult Hospital and Cancer Diseases Hospital. It houses the University of Zambia (UNZA), School of Medicine under the College of Health Sciences and trains medical students, nurses and other health professionals. UNZA and UTH have over the years provided a collaborative space within which research has been conducted.

Syracuse University (SU), located in the heart of Central New York in the United States, is a student-focused, private research-intensive university fueled by more than 150 years of tradition, academic distinction and a spirit of discovery. SU’s Research Program on Health Communication and Public Engagement (H-COPE) aims to explore, design, implement or evaluate innovative, health communication and public engagement approaches for addressing global health challenges. Anchored in dissemination science and implementation science approaches, H-COPE is tackling health challenges globally, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa through active engagement of key partners such as journalists, patients, community health workers, scientists and policymakers.

The centre is mandated to carry out basic, clinical, and translational research in sickle cell disease (SCD) aimed at addressing existing knowledge gaps and finding cheaper, safer therapies as well as innovative ways of reducing the prevalence and burden of sickle cell disease in Nigeria.
