Theme: Driving Innovation in Sickle Cell Care: Strengthening Capacity for Better Patient Outcomes 

PACTS Nigeria hosted a Capacity Strengthening Workshop attended by: 

  • Members of the Standards-Based Audit (SBA) team and the Participatory Action Cycle (PAC) from the six participating sites 

  • Dr. Motto Nganda from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine 

  • Members of the PACTS Nigeria team, CESRTA staff, and members of the University of Abuja community.

 

Workshop Highlights 

This was the most comprehensive meeting of PACTS Nigeria to date, bringing together all key stakeholders involved in the project. The workshop: 
✅ Introduced research coordinators and site teams to one another 
✅ Provided breakout sessions on SBA and PAC methodologies 
✅ Facilitated prioritization of challenges across sites and brainstorming of solutions 
✅ Included training sessions on effective data collection and analysis

Objectives of the Learning Sessions 

The sessions were designed to: 

  • Foster shared learning among stakeholders 

  • Enable exchange of best practices 

  • Encourage friendly competition to drive improvements 

  • Identify breakthrough ideas with the potential for success 

  • Develop actionable change strategies 

 

This workshop laid the foundation for strengthening capacity in sickle cell care and ensuring improved patient outcomes across all participating sites.

SAFEGUARDING 

​

At PACTS, safeguarding is a core priority, ensuring that all project activities uphold the highest standards of protection, ethics, and well-being across all participating institutions. 

 

Each country involved in the PACTS project has a dedicated safeguarding champion. 

  • Nigeria - Ijeoma Udeozo  

  • Zambia - Mabuchi Banda 

  • Ghana – Daniel Ansong 

 

Safeguarding Champions are responsible for: 
✔ Overseeing safeguarding measures within their institution. 
✔ Providing support to participants, staff, and community members. 
✔ Attending monthly safeguarding meetings  
✔ Ensuring compliance with safeguarding standards in all project activities. 

 

Training & Capacity Building 

✔ All safeguarding champions have undergone specialized safeguarding training beyond the general safeguarding sessions provided within the PACTS project. 
✔ Continuous training and mentorship equip them with the skills to prevent, identify, and respond to safeguarding concerns.
