Prof Alex Osei-Akoto is the Principal Investigator for PACTS Ghana Site. Prof Osei-Akoto is a General Paediatrician with interest in haematology specially focusing on Sickle Cell Disease. He is a Professor of Child Health with the School of Medicine and Dentistry, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana and Consultant Paediatrician at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Kumasi Ghana. He served as Clinical Coordinator, Newborn Screening Programme for Sickle Cell Disease (SCD), and also the Head of Paediatric Sickle Cell Clinic and Head of Paediatric Haematology unit for many years at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. He has worked in the Sickle cell clinical programme in the hospital since 1993 and contributed to the success of the Newborn Screening programme in the hospital and beyond. Again, he served as a member of the Technical Advisory Committee, Newborn Screening Programme for Sickle Cell Disease, Ministry of Health/Ghana Health Service, Ghana in the early 2000s. Prof Osei Akoto has led sickle cell related research studies and co-authored many publications. He served as the Principal Investigator for the Sickle Pan-African Research Consortium (SPARCo 1, 2017-2021) and currently the Principal Investigator for GBT 131,132 and 133 Clinical Trials for the Ghana site. He will see to the successful implementation of the PACTS project in Ghana.
